Valentine Bleeding Heart
Valentine Bleeding Heart is a fast-growing perennial with deep red, heart-shaped flowers with white panicles that gracefully hang from the branches. It will bloom from mid to late spring. The foliage is finely dissected with a plum tint and red stems. It will grow to a height of 24" to 36" tall and up to 18" to 30" wide. Valentine Bleeding Heart likes to be planted in light shade to full shade.
Use this plant in a perennial bed with other plants that can disguise the foliage when it goes dormant in the summer. Planting it with ferns and hostas in a woodland garden is an excellent choice. Valentine Bleeding Heart makes an excellent cut flower and grows well in containers. It is deer resistant, and the flowers attract butterflies.
Note: All parts of this plant are toxic if ingested.
