Native Chokecherry is a small fast-growing tree with sharp, finely toothed leaves that are duller green than the black cherry. The common chokecherry reveals a strong cherry order when you scrape the bark. A mature tree can reach heights of 20-30'. The spring blooming, white blossoms are fragrant which
attracts bees.
Native Chokecherry is shade tolerant, grows in a variety of soils and is tolerant of drought. The fruit is good for jams and jellies. Wildlife and birds are attracted to the fruit. It is native to our area. The leaves of this tree turn red in the fall. This tree will tolerate wet soils and is also a Firewise plant.
