“Mastering Mountain Gardening” Seminar Series
New Gardener? Never gardened before? Experienced Gardener? Then this seminar series is for you. Learn everything from selecting how much to grow and where to plant to the end result of your produce - harvesting and preserving it. There are also 2 workshops within this series for Seed Starting and Planting the plants you have grown from seed including how to build a hoop frame for frost cloth protection, a bean and pea trellis, and a raised bed. The seminar series Mastering Mountain Gardening will begin later this month. These classes will be held at the Cascade Food Pantry across from the Cascade Airport. The last class which is a workshop will be held at Alpha Nursery. The cost of this seminar class series is $50.00. This will include a notebook which will hold the handouts for each class.
For the Seed Starting Workshop, click on the button for 'Workshop Greenhouse Kits' to purchase a kit or bring your own. Seeds are not supplied but are available for purchase on our website under 'Products/Seed Starting/Seeds. You can either pick up your purchases at Alpha Nursery by appointment or your order will be brought to Cascade Food Pantry the day of the workshop.

Composting: How to Guide.
Pollinators: How to attract Pollinators to your Garden.
March 11th, Saturday 9:00AM to 12:00PM
Seed Starting: Timing, Types of Seed to Start, Hardening Off, Greenhouse Kits, Direct Sow, How to Transplant, Mulching.
Growing Veggies: Trellises, Weed Mats, Drip Irrigation, Raised Beds, Containers, Companion Planting.
Weather: Frost Cloth, Wall O’ Water, Day length, Temperatures, Frost Alert, Season Extenders.
Wildlife: Wildlife pests and how to combat them; Gophers, Voles, Birds, Chipmunks, Squirrels, and Deer.
March 25th, Saturday 9:00AM to 12:00PM
Insects and Disease: Signs to look for and how to treat them.
Berries and Fruit: Types, Care, Harvesting.
Harvesting: Canning, Freezing, and Drying.
Milk Jug Gardening: Learn how to start early seeds of all types.
Seed Starting Workshop: Purchase or bring you own mini greenhouse. Learn how to plant seeds to produce plants
to transplant into your garden.
April 15th, Saturday 10:00AM to 12:00PM
Transplanting and Direct Seeding Workshop: Learn how to plant transplants and direct seed in raised beds.
Hoop Frame, Bean and Pea Frame, Raised Bed Workshop: Learn how to construct a hoop frame for frost cloth, a bean and pea frame, and how to build raised beds.
