Flame Willow This shrub is ‘Mountain Grown’ at Alpha Nursery and is an ‘Idaho Preferred’ Plant.
Flame Willow
Flame Willow gets its name from the stems that turn orange red in late fall and last through the winter. It has light green leaves that turn yellow in the fall. It can grow to a height of 15' and 5' to 15' wide. This willow responds well to pruning if you wish to use it as a hedge or screening. For faster growth, water regularly. Flame Willow likes to be planted in full sun or partial sun.
Use Flame Willow as a specimen or in a shrub border, hedge, screening, or grouping in a landscape bed. Plant this shrub where it can be seen during the winter. The stems are very showy against the backdrop of snow. This shrub attracts butterflies and bees when in flower. It is deer resistant and drought tolerant once it is established. You can even cut some of the stems and place them in a flower arrangement in late fall or winter to brighten up the inside of your home.
