The Silver Maple tree is one of the more common and fastest growing maple trees. It does well in poor or temporary wet soil conditions and grows best in well drained soil. The wood of the Silver Maple is soft and can be damaged from ice storms or heavy winds.
The Silver Maple is an excellent shade tree. The leaves are green with a silvery underside that turns gold in the fall. It produces green-yellow to red flowers in early spring. This tree likes to be planted in full sun but will tolerate partial shade. It has an open oval shape at full maturity.
Do not plant this tree next to concrete as the roots have been known to break sidewalks and go through basement walls. Plant Silver Maple in an open area for a fast growing shade tree. Silver Maple will attract wildlife.
