Dalmation Purple Foxglove
Dalmatian Purple Foxglove forms a low growing clump of green leaves at its base. It has tall spikes of deep lavender-purple bell-shaped flowers, each spotted inside with maroon, and purple. It will bloom in late spring to early summer and will attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. It will grow to a height of 3' to 4' tall and 12" to 18" wide. This variety may need staking.
Use this perennial as a back border in a perennial garden or landscape bed, a cottage garden, or at the edge of a woodland garden. It works well as a cut flower and will even grow in a large container. Dalmatian Purple Foxglove is deer resistant. Dalmatian Purple Foxglove prefers sun or partial shade.
Deadhead the first-year blooms by trimming back to the base of the plant after flowering to encourage overwintering and a second year of bloom. Allow the plants to form seeds in the second year and they may self-sow for additional plants. New seedlings that sprout can be moved in their first season to other locations.
NOTE: All parts of this plant are toxic if ingested.
