Common Thyme
Common Thyme is a highly aromatic perennial herb that has medium green to grey-green foliage. It will grow from 8" to 12" tall and 12" to 18" wide. It will produce purplish blossoms in summer. The blossoms attract butterflies and pollinating bees when in bloom. Plant Common Thyme in full sun and well drained soil.
Use Common Thyme in a Cottage Garden, perennial bed, container, or an herb garden. It is deer resistant due to the aromatic foliage. It will become drought tolerant once it is established.
Common Thyme can be used fresh or dried. To dry the leaves, hang the English Thyme upside down in a warm location away from sunlight. When the leaves are dry, remove them from the stems and store the leaves in a tightly closed container for up to a year in a cool, dark location, such as a cupboard. Do not crush the leaves until they are ready for use as they may lose some of their flavor.
