Maltese Cross
Maltese Cross is a very popular perennial for Cottage gardens. It is a rugged and easy perennial to grow. It does best in a sunny location in rich, well-drained soil. Maltese Cross will form an upright clump of deep green leaves which will shoot up taller stems in summer which will be topped with large clusters of scarlet-orange flowers. It will grow to a height of 3' to 4' and 12" to 18" in width.
Maltese Cross makes an excellent cut flower. In richer soils, this perennial may need staking. It is a reliable and long lived plant. You may divide clumps in spring or fall. The flowers attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. It has no significant fall color and will die back for the winter. Maltese Cross is also deer resistant.
