European Mountain Ash
European Mountain Ash is native to Western Asia and Europe but does well in our clite. Its leaves turn yellow, orange, and red in autumn. It has white flowers in the late spring that will produce red berries in the fall and persist through the winter. The berries attract birds and are a favorite food and highly prized by the red-headed woodpecker, robin, and bluebird.
European Mountain Ash will grow from a height of 20' to 40' and 8' to 20' wide. It prefers full sunlight and prefers acidic soil. You can topdress the soil around the tree with Ammonia Sulphate to acidify the soil. European Mountain Ash is also a Firewise Plant.
