Black Lace Elderberry
Black Lace Elderberry is a very unique plant. Similar to the Black Beauty Elderberry except the leaves on this plant are very finely textured, almost lace-like. The leaves are finely cut, dark purple foliage that is adorned in early summer with big pink blossoms which jump against the backdrop of dark purple foliage. The blossoms are 10" across and emit a light lemon fragrance.
Clusters of black-purple berries develop in the summer. These berries make great jam, pies, and wine. Birds are attracted to the berries. Place bird netting over the shrub to protect the berries if you wish to harvest the berries. Elderberries are high in antioxidants, vitamins and other nutritional value. Black Lace Elderberry likes to be planted in full sun.
Black Lace Elderberry was named the "Best New Plant" of 2006 at the NM Pro ANLA New Plant Pavilion. Use it as a specimen shrub, train it into a small tree, or use for naturalizing. This will surely give your garden an exotic,
tropical appeal. This is a Proven Winners plant.
