Barbeque Rosemary
Barbeque Rosemary is grown for its aromatic gray green foliage and flavor. It will grow from 2' to 3' tall and 18" to 24" wide. Plant Barbeque Rosemary in full sun and well-drained soil. The blossoms are blue and will bloom from late spring through late summer. They will attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies when in bloom.
Use Barbeque Rosemary in a perennial border, Cottage Garden, container or even for topiary. It is deer resistant and will become drought tolerant once it is established. Barbeque Rosemary is grown as an annual in our area. The stems of Barbeque Rosemary are strong and straight and can be used as skewers in cooking, hence its name.
Barbeque Rosemary leaves and flowers can be used as seasoning in lamb dishes, vinegars, soups, and stews. Barbeque Rosemary can be used fresh or dried. To dry the leaves, hang the Rosemary upside down in a warm location away from sunlight. When the leaves are dry, remove them from the stems and store the leaves in a tightly closed container for up to a year in a cool, dark location, such as a cupboard. Do not crush the leaves until they are ready for use as they may lose some of their flavor.
Rosemary was named Herb of the Year in 2000 by the International Herb Association.
