Herbicides
Herbicides are used to kill unwanted vegetation, weeds, or grass. There are three different types of herbicides to choose from depending on what you are wanting to kill.
Organic Herbicides are typically used in gardens where you don't want to spray any chemicles on your food or contaminate the soil.
Pre-Emergent Herbicides are put down on the soil or ground to keep weeds and grasses from sprouting. This type of herbicide does not work on weeds or grasses that have already sprouted. Use these in the spring before weeds or grasses appear or during the season to keep any new weeds and grasses from sprouting.
Post-Emergent Herbicides will kill weeds and grasses after they have sprouted or are currently growing. There are three different varieties of Post-Emergent Herbicides to choose from.
Non-selective Post-Emergent Herbicides will kill anything or almost anything the spray touches. It does not 'select' and kills everything. Use this to clear an area you wish to make into a vegetable garden or landscaped area. Read the directions on how many days you may need to wait before planting.
Selective Post-Emergent Herbicides will 'select' which vegetation to kill, either broadleaf or grass.
A broadleaf selective post-emergent herbicide will kill all broadleaf weeds or vegetation like dandelions or clover. It will not kill grass generally. Read the directions as some types may be affected.
A grass selective post-emergent herbicide will kill grass that is growing in vegetable gardens or landscape beds but not the vegetation the grass is growing in and around. Read the directions as some types of broadleafs may be affected.
