Sweet Marjoram

Sweet Marjoram is grown as an annual in our area. It has medium green foliage with white blossoms from midsummer to late summer. When in bloom, it will attract pollinating bees. It will grow to a height of 6" to 18" tall and 12" to 18" wide. Plant in full sun to partial shade and well drained soil.
Use Sweet Marjoram in a Cottage Garden or a mixed container. It will tend to trail if you plant this in a hanging basket. It is deer resistant and drought tolerant once it is established. The foliage is fragrant and is used in making teas and in cooking to season bean dishes, eggs, fish, cheese, and tomato dishes. If you are harvesting this herb, it is best to do so prior to flowering as it will retain more of the oil in the leaves.
Cut sprigs and dry in an area out of sunlight. When dry, strip the leaves and place in a container out of sunlight. Do not crush the leaves until you are ready to use them to keep them fresh.
