Alder Buckthorn is a narrow, upright deciduous shrub that grows up to 12' to 15' tall and from 3' to 4' wide. It has dark green glossy leaves. It has flowers in the late spring that are from yellow to green and will bear black berries in the late summer to fall. Alder Buckthorn likes full sun to part shade and well drained soil. The leaves will turn yellow to brown in the fall.
Alder Buckthorn will attract birds for the berries and butterflies for the flowers. Alder Buckthorn makes a great hedge plant or screen.
